This 16 x 20 inch informal portrait was taken on Thanksgiving Day in 1980, and features Mickey Hart and his mother, Leah Farrow. Both Mickey and his mom are wearing Grateful Dead tee shirts.
I was invited to celebrate the holiday with Mickey when his mother was attending my Adult Education Photography class.
The Grateful Dead performed in South Florida the day before Thanksgiving, so Mickey’s mother invited everyone in the band to Thanksgiving dinner. Mickey was the only member of The Grateful Dead to show up.
A rare and collectable part of Rock history, this picture is in the permanent collection of The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This image also appears in my book, “ROCK & ROLL: Concert and Backstage Photographs from the 1970s and 1980s.” It arrives ready to put on your wall.
